Hello, I'm Louise

Welcome to Open Path Counselling Services.

I understand that taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, and I believe that everyone deserves a safe, accepting and empathetic space where they can be heard without judgement.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, loss or simply feeling overwhelmed, you don't have to face it alone. I'm here to support you as you take the next steps towards greater understanding, confidence and hope.

If you're considering counselling, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

 My Approach

My approach is person-centred, which means I provide a safe, compassionate and confidential environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

I believe that you are the expert in your own life. Rather than directing our sessions, I'll work alongside you, offering empathy, acceptance and understanding while supporting you to discover your own strengths and find a path forward that feels right for you.Every person is unique, which is why each counselling session is tailored to your individual needs, experiences and goals.

My Journey

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent more than ten years working in education, supporting children and young people from a wide range of backgrounds.

During this time, I gained extensive experience working alongside neurodiverse individuals, including those with ADHD, autism and other additional needs. These experiences deepened my understanding of the unique challenges that children, young people and families can face and strengthened my passion for supporting emotional wellbeing.

Alongside my professional experience, my personal life has also shaped who I am as a counsellor. As the mother of a neurodivergent son and a child living with a long-term chronic health condition, I understand the challenges that can come with advocating for your child, navigating services and supporting their emotional wellbeing. These experiences have strengthened my empathy, resilience and appreciation that every family's journey is unique.

Working in education, alongside my own lived experiences, reinforced just how important mental health and emotional wellbeing are to every aspect of life. It inspired me to train as a counsellor so that I could provide a warm, accepting and confidential space where people feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions, knowing they will be listened to with compassion and without judgement.

Today, I combine my professional training, practical experience and personal understanding to support children, young people and adults as they navigate life's challenges and move towards positive change at a pace that feels right for them.

Giving back through charity work

Alongside my private practice, I am passionate about giving back to the community through voluntary counselling and support work. I believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, professional counselling.

As a volunteer counsellor with Leicester Rape Crisis and Quetzal, I provide trauma-informed therapy to survivors of sexual violence and abuse. I recognise that every individual's experience of trauma is unique, and I am committed to working at each person's pace with compassion, sensitivity and respect.

I also volunteer with Youth Works, providing counselling to children aged 11+ and young people experiencing a wide range of emotional and mental health challenges.

Supporting young people has reinforced my belief in the importance of early intervention and the value of creating a trusting therapeutic relationship where every individual feels accepted, understood and empowered.

Meet Poppy

Poppy is my friendly little Chorkie, and a much loved part of Open Path counselling services, she loves adventures and cosy naps. For clients who find dogs comforting, she is happy to quietly curl up on a lap or nearby during a session.

I also understand that dogs aren't for everyone. If you would prefer not to have Poppy present, she will happily relax upstairs in her own room, ensuring your session is comfortable, calm, and focused on you.
